Building Carbon Footprint Certification
Global carbon emissions are approximately 40% contributed by the construction industry. In the future, buildings should emphasize deep energy-saving efficiency and reduce embodied carbon. Building Carbon Footprint Certification is a certification system that reveals the carbon emissions throughout the lifecycle of a building.
The Building Carbon Footprint Certification is established by the Low Carbon Building Alliance (LCBA). The assessment scope of carbon emissions includes all stages of the building lifecycle, from Production and transportation of building materials, construction, Operation and Maintenance, Renovation and Retrofit, and demolition and disposal. It provides assessments for 3 categories: building, landscape, and interior design. The strategies focus on achieving carbon reduction through architectural design and construction techniques while maintaining the same basic functions.
3 main strategies for reducing building carbon footprints:
Carbon Disclose
Hotspot Identification
Carbon Reduction Action
These three strategies work together to assess, identify, and address the carbon footprints of buildings, enabling stakeholders to make decisions and take actions toward reducing building carbon footprint.
LCBA has proposed two labeling methods for the“ Building Carbon Footprint Certification ”.
1. Label for building carbon footprint: This labeling method focuses on the total carbon emissions throughout the life cycle of the building and the carbon footprint index (annual carbon density, CFI). It provides a classification based on total carbon emissions, indicating the total carbon footprint of the building during a designated lifetime.
2. Label for carbon emission level: This labeling method combines the carbon footprint index (annual carbon density, CFI) with a leveling measurement. It provides a leveling system for rating the carbon emission level of a building.

Through Building Carbon Footprint Certification, companies can effectively quantify their carbon reduction goals and fulfill their corporate ESG responsibility. We carefully review the carbon information and provide appropriate carbon-reducing strategies throughout building lifecycle and have successfully helped many projects obtain low-carbon building certification with high certification levels.
